NXT Spoilers: July 18, 2020 Tapings

NXT has a little bit of time to cover a lot of ground. With four weeks to go before the August 18th show - TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 - we need to pretty much establish the whole card. Lucky for us, NXT came through in spades, with a fantastic set of TV Tapings. What matches will be made? Will we see any debuts? Lucky for you, Win Column Sports has all the Spoilers!

This should go without saying, but SPOILERS AHEAD

July 25th Episode

  • Adam Cole def. Sean Maluta.
  • Post-match, Ricochet makes his entrance and challenges for the North American Championship in Brooklyn! Cole turns him down, and the rest of the Undisputed Era comes to intimidate Ricochet - but War Raiders make the save! With even odds, Undisputed sneaks away; however, Moustache Mountain corners them, forcing a brawl to end the segment!
  • Lacey Evans def. Tenilla Price.
  • Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) def. the Mighty (Nick Miller & Shane Thorne). The end of the match came when the Street Profits distracted the Mighty from the crowd.
  • Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) over some jobber tag team. Post-match, Moustache Mountain demand their rematch for the belts at TakeOver: Brooklyn 4.
  • EC3 over Kona Reeves. Mid-match, Velveteen Dream cut a promo on EC3.

August 1st Episode

  • Shayna Baszler def. Candice LeRae. After the match, Shayna does her beatdown angle to Candice, but Kairi Sane makes the save!
  • Tommaso Ciampa def. Aleister Black to win the NXT Championship! During the finish, Ciampa exposed the concrete to give Black a DDT. The ref takes a bump, and Johnny Gargano makes a run out after Ciampa hits Black with a crutch. Gargano inadvertently hits Black with the belt, knocking him out.
  • Nikki Cross over Amber Nova.
  • Ricochet is attacked mid entrance by the Undisputed Era. Adam Cole accepts his challenge!
  • Kassius Ohno over Adrian Jaoude

August 8th Episode

  • Keith Lee (!!!!!!!!) over Marcel Barthel!
  • Taynara Conti over Vanessa Borne to qualify for the Mae Young Classic.
  • Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) over the Mighty (Nick Miller & Shane Thorne).
  • Ciampa comes to cut a promo, claiming NXT to be his. He calls out Gargano, claims to be the greatest sports-entertainer of all time, and argues with another grandmother. Aleister Black interrupts, and Johnny comes and attacks Ciampa. Black lays out Gargano with a Black Mass.

August 15th Episode

  • Kairi Sane def. Aliyah. Sane his three elbow drops and finished her with a submission win.
  • Tyler Bate def. Roderick Strong. Just typing that these two wrestled makes me happy.
  • Velveteen cuts another promo on EC3. EC3 comes out and fires back, challenges Dream to a match, and lays out the former Patrick Clark with the One-Percenter. It seems EC3 is the face in this feud, for reasons I won’t understand.
  • Aleister Black vs. Johnny Gargano ends in a a no-contest after Tommaso Ciampa attacks both men.
  • William Regal (making his return) comes down as they brawl and makes it official for TakeOver: Brooklyn 4— Black vs. Gargano vs. Ciampa - with the NXT Championship on the line!

My Thoughts:

  • EC3 vs Velveteen is a feud that I wanted since it was teased in the ladder match. Character wise, it’s fantastic. Match-wise? Should be very good to great. Great matches though? Ricochet vs. Cole is my pick for MOTN for Takeover: Brooklyn. Heard it here first.
  • The tease between War Raiders and Undisputed Era was great. Give me this feud quickly.
  • Keith Lee making a quick debut? I’m happy. This guy is great.
  • Nikki Cross is still here…why?
  • Ciampa winning the title was a bit of a shock. Now it’s had time to digest, this was totally the right call. Black’s reign was good, but not great. Moreso, Ciampa is getting nuclear heat right now. Hopefully he has a long title reign.
  • I’m excited to see who gets called up to the main roster. Black seems like a given, while we could maybe see Velveteen Dream? Who do you think gets called up?

Well color me excited for Brooklyn. Jesus, the match card looks incredible. What do you think of the tapings? Let us know by tweeting us @WCSportsCA or myself personally @Parkman15Love!
