For months, Albertan wrestling fans have waited with bated breath for a sliver of hope that professional wrestling would soon return to the province.
On Tuesday, that hope became a reality, as Real Canadian Wrestling became the first Albertan promotion to make a formal announcement regarding future dates.
Yesterday, Real Canadian Wrestling announced a pair of appearances in Calgary and Edmonton on October 23rd and 24th, respectively.
The events are scheduled to take place as part of RCW’s annual Rise of Legends tour.
In addition to the announced dates, the promotion also announced that former WWE Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella would be appearing as part of the mini-tour. Marella, a 17-year veteran in professional wrestling, is not only a former IC, United States and Tag Team Champion in the WWE, but one of it’s most entertaining combatants.
“RCW is super excited to being able to bring such an amazing world travelled talent as Santino Marella and have him appear at what RCW calls its version of “WrestleMania” Rise of Legends,” commented RCW founder and owner Steven Ewaschuk to the WCSN.
“RCW is also excited to hopefully being able to get back to business on a more regular basis within the next couple of weeks. RCW has been in extensive talks with both of our venues in Edmonton and Calgary about getting back to business soon and hopefully coming back stronger than ever.”
While, unfortunately, the upcoming events are still months away due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it’s certainly a positive step in the right direction towards the return of live professional wrestling in Alberta.
Tickets for both dates are currently on sale through the Real Canadian Wrestling Eventbrite page, or through contacting the promotion’s social media channels. General admission tickets will begin at $25, with additional VIP or Platinum packages available for $40 and $50, respectively. Tickets will also be available at the door for an additional fee.
