EDMONTON, AB: You truly won’t find a bigger weekend in Roller Derby than you will this weekend in Edmonton.

Saturday, September 28th, the Slice Girls and Berzerkhers will compete for The Gage Cup.

The Gage Cup is E-Ville’s trophy named after a past league member, close in the league’s hearts. Former skater ‘Stormy Sky’ brought her son, Gage, to every practice and game. He was close to all the skaters and was E-Ville’s biggest fan. In 2009 Gage passed away from an asthma attack. Now at every Gage Cup E-Ville raises money for The Stollery Children’s Hospital in memory of Gage.

E-Ville Roller Derby’s home season will be coming to a close this Saturday at The Sports Dome. Their two house teams, the Slice Girls and Berzerkhers, will be taking to the track to see who will triumphantly hoist The Gage Cup. For the past 10 seasons, E-Ville’s house teams have vied to be victorious.

The past two seasons the Slice Girls have reigned as champions in 2 nail-biting games against the Berzerkhers. In 2018 the Slice Girls pulled out the exciting win in the last jam to become back-to-back Gage Cup winners.

“Let’s hope that the Slice Girls can keep the Gage Cup this year! Even though the Berzerkhers gave us a good game earlier this season,” says ‘Smokeshow’, a blocker on the Slice Girls. At the only other meeting between the two teams this season, the Berzerkhers had a dominant win with 232 over the Slice Girls 75.

“The Berzerkhers have never won The Gage Cup since I have been in the league. It’s long overdue!” exclaims ‘Magic Wanda’, a blocker for the Berzerkhers. All the way back in 2014 was last time the Berzerkhers were champions. They are hungry to win again.

Will the Slice Girls be able to continue their winning streak? Will the Berzerkhers finally win another Gage Cup? You’ll have to be there to find out.
