CALGARY, AB: No need to include the traditional “Alberta” precursor: just call this a dream match.

Saturday night saw the Prairie Wrestling Alliance host PWA Destiny, the promotion’s first event since September 28th’s Fall Fever in Edmonton. As previously reported by the WCSN, that evening’s event saw reigning PWA Commonwealth Champion and All Elite Wrestling star Shawn Spears defend his title against former champion Shaun Moore. That evening saw Spears retain his championship following a series of Death Valley Drivers on Moore, ostensibly concluding the feud between the duo and leaving the Commonwealth champion without a challenger for his next scheduled defence on November 16th in Calgary. While many speculated as to who Spears’ next challenger would be, it was the Chairman himself who had a hand in selecting his upcoming opponent.

Brace yourself, folks.

As confirmed by the PWA on Saturday evening, Spears will next defend the PWA Commonwealth Championship against none other than “God’s Gift to Wrestling” Michael Richard Blais.

The match marks the first meeting between the pair.

While 2019 have featured a number of first-time-ever dream matches across Alberta, the scheduled tilt between Blais and Spears is one of the most anticipated in recent history. Spears, a native of St. Catharines, Ontario, has become one of the most talked-about stars in professional wrestling since his shocking debut at AEW Double or Nothing nearly five months ago. Since then, he’s squared off with the likes of Jimmy Havoc, Joey Janela and Cody in marquee matchups, as well as added Tully Blanchard as an on-screen advisor in All Elite Wrestling.

Blais status as the top star in Alberta has been, frankly, undebatable for some time now. The TJ Wilson trainee has had an outstanding 2019, even by the standards of a man known as God’s Gift to Wrestling. With a pair of internet-breaking moments now sprinkled in among his laundry list of marquee matchups, and it’s easy to see why his impending matchup with The Chairman is so widely hyped.

Tickets for the PWA’s November 16th event in Calgary will be available in the coming days.

Stay tuned to the WCSN for any further updates.
