The major news this week - not just in professional wrestling, but worldwide - was the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact was felt across the independent scene as well, with a number of event cancellations and guest appearances postponed over the last week.

Despite the pandemic, a number of positive pieces of news still came out over the past seven days. Perhaps the most important was the confirmation that the British Bulldog will finally make his way to the WWE Hall of Fame in the near future. Trainers were announced for the Top Talent Wrestling Academy, and RCW announced another guest for their upcoming Anniversary shows.

Events Cancelled, Appearances Postponed Through COVID-19 Scare

Unfortunately, as with any industry, the COVID-19 outbreak caused a ripple effect throughout the independent wrestling scene.

Last week, the virus caused a number of cancellations throughout the province, impacting nearly all of Alberta’s independent promotions. At least five shows have been postponed as of this time, with more likely to be at least postponed in the coming weeks. These include the PWA’s upcoming 19th-Anniversary Show, a pair of shows from Real Canadian Wrestling, and the PPW March Mayhem event previously scheduled for March 28th.

Fortunately, as of the time of writing, a few events are still scheduled to run over the next few weeks. Currently, despite Rosemary’s unfortunate postponement, a pair of Real Canadian Wrestling shows are set to run in Calgary and Edmonton this weekend. Additionally, Monster Pro Wrestling’s upcoming event, MPW: The Return, is still scheduled to run as advertised on April 4th. However, these details are subject to change.
