TK O’Ryan, Johnny Devine Headline Announcements for CWE Cruel Summer Tour

It was a busy week for Canadian Wrestling’s Elite. Last week, the promotion made a bevvy of talent announcements for their upcoming “Cruel Summer” tour, scheduled to take place throughout Alberta next month. On July 4th, the CWE made a pair of major splashes in announcing that both Ring of Honor star TK O’Ryan and Albertan wrestling legend Johnny Devine would join the tour for their scheduled Alberta dates.

Since making his Ring of Honor debut in 2016, O’Ryan has quickly become one of the promotion’s most talked-about stars, becoming a three-time ROH 6-Man Tag Team Champion with fellow Kingdom members Vinny Marseglia and current ROH World Champion Matt Taven. Additionally, O’Ryan is a veteran of the CWE, touring with the promotion during last year’s Struttin’ and Cuttin’ tour with both of his Kingdom stablemates. However, August’s tour marks the first appearances without Taven or Marseglia for the ROH star.

Devine is a bonafide legend in the Albertan independent wrestling scene. A graduate of the famed Hart Dungeon, Devine’s career began in 1999 for the reincarnated Stampede Wrestling, where he became both a British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Champion and an International Tag Team Champion. Devine was also honoured as a member of the Prairie Wrestling Alliance Hall-of-Fame. However, Devine is perhaps best known for his time in TNA as part of the Team Canada stable featuring stars like Petey WilliamsBobby RoodeEric Young and Teddy Hart. This summer’s dates mark the first appearances for Devine for the CWE since 2017.

In addition, the promotion confirmed the appearances of Chris Perish and Montana Black for the upcoming Albertan tour. Tickets for the four August events are available through the official CWE website.

Prairie Wrestling Alliance Confirms Shawn Spears  for Edmonton, Calgary Dates

After capturing the PWA Commonwealth Championship at last month’s Night of Champions, the dates of Shawn Spears’ first title defences have been confirmed by the Prairie Wrestling Alliance. On September 28th at PWA Fall Fever, Spears will make his return to Edmonton for his first defence of the Commonwealth Championship. Additionally, at November 9th’s PWA Remembrance the AEW star makes his way to Calgary for what’s also tentatively scheduled to be a title match. While no opponents have been confirmed for the erstwhile WWE star, one can assume that former titleholder Shaun Moore will be chomping at the bit in an attempt to recover his championship. Tickets for upcoming PWA shows are available on July 13 (Fall Fever, Edmonton) and July 27 (Remembrance, Calgary).

Juventud Guerrera Announced for CWE Winter Tour

While the CWE may be preparing for the upcoming Cruel Summer tour, the promotion still found time to confirm one of their headliners for next fall’s cross-Canada tour. Next November, the CWE will embark on a 32-show, 32-day tour across the Great White North, with the shows set to be headlined by five-time WWE/WCW Cruiserweight Champion Juventud Guerrera.

Guerrera, along with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Psicosis and Rey Mysterio, was one of the first to truly establish the lucha libre style in America. As a member of both the WCW and WWE roster through the late ’90s and early ’00s, Guerrera revolutionized the high-flying Cruiserweight style, becoming one of the first to consistently utilize the 450 splash. In addition to his Cruiserweight Championship reigns, Guerrera has won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, the AAA Cruiserweight Championship and the ICW Heavyweight Championship among others through his storied career.

Tickets for The Juice is on the Loose tour are available through the official CWE website.
