It’s been 482 days since the last time FC Edmonton took the pitch. In 79 more days, ladies and gentleman we will once again witness Eddies soccer! The Club and their new league (Canadian Premier League (CPL)) announced today that the home opener for FC Edmonton will be played on Sunday May 12th at Clarke Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 1:30PM kickoff but they note that the time is subject to change because well, May in Edmonton could still be -15 degrees Celsius. The opponent will be Pacific FC (Vancouver).

FC Edmonton fans have impatiently waited for this glorious announcement since the league began announcing home openers back on January 29th. Many asked how it could take multiple weeks to feed the ferocious appetites of teams not named Forge FC (Hamilton) or York9FC (York Region, Ontario) but it no longer matters. All that matters now is that we know when the YEG4CPL movement that helped propel FC Edmonton back from the dead will get their first chance to be boisterous and supportive of our boys.

The FC Edmonton season starts on Saturday May 4th in Winnipeg versus the Valour FC.

Eddies to host Pacific FC on Sunday, May 12

FC Edmonton is pleased to announce their first home match against Pacific FC will be played on Sunday, May 12 at 1:30 pm at Clarke Stadium.

FC Edmonton has a strategy when it comes to putting our roster together in order to create an identity for the club – a club featuring local talent, staying true to the Canadian Premier League’s mandate of being a league for Canadians, by Canadians.

In addition, FC Edmonton will kick off the season on Saturday, May 4th against Valour FC at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 5:00 pm Central Time. This will be the home opener for Valour FC.

“We are beyond excited for our founding clubs to kick-off their inaugural seasons with their first official home games and as a fan, I am excited to see what every club has to offer.” said David Clanachan, Commissioner, Canadian Premier League. “This is an opportunity for Canada to showcase the homegrown talent we have in our midst and finally have the dream of the CPL become a reality for our seven cities.”

The full schedule for the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League will be released on Wednesday, February 27 at 10:00 am Mountain Time.

Kick-off times subject to change

In the days and weeks to come, I will share more of these kinds of e-mails from the Club. “Singing to the choir” can only take you so far. If you are a soccer fan, share this with someone who has not checked out a game yet. If you are not a soccer fan, come check out a FC Edmonton game and sit next the Supporters Section. Truth be told, I am not a soccer guy. Due to the antics of the Supporters along with the atmosphere at the Stadium, when the “Rally Rabbit” come looking for help, I immediately stepped up and bought season tickets.

I’ll be seeing you at Clarke Stadium in 79 days.
